From a food blog!
If you are in your 40s or 50s, running a busy professional practice, managing a corporate career, or trying to scale a small business, you are likely playing the income game by a set of rules that no longer make mathematical sense. I know I was.
Until a client of mine handed me a massive reality check.
I was deep in the design phase of a client's custom home build when I noticed something that didn't add up. She had a construction loan set up — but they hadn't touched it. She was writing checks instead. Five figures for the foundation. Five figures for the framing package and so on. And then, after all of that, she paid cash — six figures — for a two-tier lagoon pool with a waterfall and a slide.
My Wall Street brain immediately started calculating the billable hours, the client negotiations, and the sleepless nights it would take me to generate that kind of liquid cash flow. And then I couldn't help myself. I looked at her and said:
"Tell me what you do again."
She said she ran a food blog. And that she earned 80–90% of her income passively through monetized ads. She wasn't even doing the day-to-day work anymore — she had a small remote team and was operating as the CEO while the business machine ran.
I wasn't suddenly interested in food blogging. I was interested in the architecture — the clean, uncompromised structure of a scalable, location-independent business that earned without requiring her constant presence inside it. That was the moment I decided to start my digital shift!
